History

In 1955 a small band of young couples came together with a common vision to start a church for young families on the growing west side of Columbus, Ohio.

At that same time, a new community was being built next to Broad Street in west Columbus under the leadership of Murray Lincoln.

In 1956, property was purchased in the Lincoln Village development and “Lincoln Baptist Church” began.

In 1966 a new sanctuary was built to house the growing congregation, which seated 150+ people. On special occasions like Easter Sunday the church would have multiple services.

In the 1970’s the church experienced growth as they focused on the neighborhood as a community.  By 1979 land was purchased on Feder Road near Hilliard-Rome Road and I-70 to help the congregation’s growth in the village. In 1980 the current multipurpose facility was built. In 1983 our version of the “West Wing” was built for children and education space. In the 1990’s we refocused our ministry methods. Then pastor Daniel Sommer lead the church into establishing small groups and contemporary worship.

In 1998 the church called Reverend Doyle A Jackson to be the pastor. The church continued to focus its energy and focus on building relationships in the community and sharing the hope that Jesus brings.
In 2004, the church chose to become a non-denominational congregation and changed its name to The Church Next Door to reflect its vision for the families in the area.
